Girl from the North Country opens on Broadway
A note from our Artistic Director Matthew Warchus as Girl from the North Country opens on Broadway:
I am hugely proud of The Old Vic’s production of Girl From the North Country and its success in London, New York and Toronto following its world premiere at The Old Vic. We are delighted that the show is coming to Broadway.
I recognised from the start, when I was first introduced to this project, that the combination of Conor McPherson’s writing and Bob Dylan’s songs was a match made in heaven. I was so happy when Conor agreed to my pleas that he should also direct the show and I think this – given Conor’s own brilliant musical sensibility – is what allowed for the rare fusion of text, music and staging which this production manifests so exceptionally.
It is a great privilege to be able to offer Girl From the North Country to New York audiences alongside two other Old Vic productions this season: A Christmas Carol which played over the holiday season at the Lyceum Theatre, and Lungs which comes to BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) in March. These three shows are an apt reflection of the wide range of work we love to make here at The Old Vic. I hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
